Employee Relations

Employee development

Training is key to improving employee performance and productivity. In the best interests of our teams, our employee development approach gives employees the chance to achieve formal, recognised qualifications.

In the year to 30 June 2011, our objective was to grow accredited training to 75% of our total training budget. However, we also realised that training with regard to the prevention of risks and awareness procedures was critical for servicing client needs. Consequently, we implemented specific compliance and risk related learning and development interventions. We nevertheless increased accredited training to 69.2% of our training budget.

Strategic training achieved

Coaching and mentorship

We promote structural empowerment by offering on-the-job training opportunities that facilitate dialogue between managers and employees. This has resulted in line managers being nominated and trained to act as coaches and mentors.

Relationship with SAPOA

Our relationship with the South African Property Owners Association (SAPOA)’s Education Committee has enabled us to assess learning and development opportunities available in the property industry through engagement with committee members. This has resulted in employees acquiring property knowledge and skills by attending SAPOA courses.

Future focus

In the past two years, we have focused on training employees, in the middle and junior levels, technical and managerial skills. We have since realised a need to further develop senior managers and executives.
